
Freese and Nichols Named "Best Civil Engineering Firm to Work For" in Large Firm Category by CE News
11 October, 2011Freese and Nichols was named the “Best Civil Engineering Firm to Work for” in the large firm category by CE News, and ranked fifth among the overall Top 25 civil engineering firms in the country. The publication announced the results of its annual ranking in its October issue. Freese and Nichols was the highest ranking of only three Texas companies to be recognized on the list.

Workplace practices that earned Freese and Nichols a top spot in the rankings include the wide range of communication channels between staff and management, engagement of employees in strategic planning and critical decision-making processes, regular measurement of employee satisfaction, training programs, leadership development initiatives and a competitive employee benefits package.
CE News’ annual “Best Places to Work For” ranking is based on comprehensive evaluations of firm culture, workplace practices, employee benefits, employee retention rates and professional development programs from the perspective of the firm’s management team and confidential employee surveys.
This year, Freese and Nichols competed against 49 firms from across the nation, ranging in size from 23 to 530 employees. With 475 employees, Freese and Nichols was judged in the large firm category. CE News recognizes top firms in the small (fewer than 100 employees), medium (100 – 299 employees) and large firm category (more than 300 employees).
The CE News ranking is the latest recognition of the firm’s positive workplace practices. In 2009, Freese and Nichols was named by the Society for Human Resources Management and the Great Place to Work Institute as one of the top “Best Small and Medium Companies to Work For in America,” and several of the firm’s individual offices have received local “Best Places to Work” recognitions. In 2010, Freese and Nichols became the first engineering/architecture firm to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest honor for performance excellence. Workforce focus is one of seven criteria in the Baldrige evaluation process.
