Frisco Zoning Ordinance Wins Urban Planning Award

20 October, 2011

The 2011 Zoning Ordinance for the City of Frisco received the Current Planning Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association. Freese and Nichols’ Urban Planning team included Daniel Harrison, AICP (Project Manager), Dan Sefko, FAICP, and Erica Craycraft, ACIP.

The project team transformed the existing ordinance into a usable document that is easy to navigate and understand – including hyperlinks, illustrations, and clear tables for permitted land uses and development regulations. The ordinance also incorporates a form-based code manual for mixed-use planned developments, simplified development procedures, revised landscaping and tree preservation requirements, and several updated overlay districts

Freese and Nichols developed the 2011 Zoning Ordinance for the City of Frisco as an update to the previous ordinance that had been adopted in 1993. The purpose of the update was to implement the vision established in the 2006 Comprehensive Plan (prepared by Freese and Nichols) and to simplify the document and its complex regulations.
