Freese and Nichols is serving as the primary consultant in the “Imagine Burleson – Roadmap to 2030.” The plan includes the 2010 Comprehensive Plan and the companion project for the 174 Corridor Plan. Working closely with City Staff, FNI has implemented a progressive and thorough public participation program with a series of open houses, town hall meetings, and steering committee meetings. Based on the input received, key issues related to land use and livability were identified and integrated into the plan.
FNI created a Future Land Use Plan Map to identify recommended land uses throughout the City and its ETJ area, taking into consideration the future SH-121, the proposed Loop 9 alignment, and the existing IH-35W and SH-174. Several mixed use areas and plans were incorporated into the plan, including a transit-oriented development (TOD), a historic district, and the IH-35W corridor, as well as the 174 Corridor Plan study area. Additional recommendations included providing support for a more diverse tax base and stable economy, planning for a performing arts facility, protection of environmentally sensitive areas, development of a mixed use area complementary to the existing historic downtown core, pedestrian connectivity and amenities, and residential and nonresidential design guidelines.
