Frisco, a northern suburb of Dallas with an estimated 2010 population of 107,000, is one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. Additionally, Frisco has consistently been rated as one of the best places to live by several different sources including Forbes magazine. In 2011, Freese and Nichols developed a new zoning ordinance for the City. Frisco’s previous zoning ordinance was originally adopted in 1993 and was continually amended during the following years. Freese and Nichols was charged with the task of transforming the old zoning ordinance into an updated and user friendly document that would help the community achieve the vision established by its comprehensive plan. The ordinance incorporates sustainable/green planning concepts, simplified development procedures, revised landscaping and tree preservation requirements, and several updated overlay districts.
