Freese and Nichols completed the award-winning design of improvements to Carrollton’s Highland Creek, involving representatives of 59 homeowners, to address flooding and erosion along 3,984 feet of the creek. The project team evaluated hydraulic conditions to determine the extent of flooding, calculated the magnitude of erosive velocities, and inventoried trees and amenities along the channel. The final design mitigated the erosion and maintained the integrity and beauty of the channel.
Freese and Nichols collected citizen input and developed and maintained a project Web site to provide stakeholders with updated project information. This project was awarded a Gold Medal in the Water Resources Category by the Texas Council of Engineering Companies in 2007.
