The new 3.5-mile Pearland Parkway extension is a major arterial, four-lane divided concrete roadway that includes a 700-foot twin bridge over Clear Creek and a 162-acre foot detention pond. The $13.3-million project was completed on schedule and $200,000 under budget, facilitated development along its corridor, and has been instrumental in reducing through-traffic in downtown Pearland.
Freese and Nichols’ design incorporated a 360-foot roundabout at McHard Road intersection, a signalized intersection at Beltway 8, and curb and gutter. Coordination was required with USACE, BDD#4, HCTRA, HCFCD, the City of Houston, and pipeline and utility companies. The design team completed a preliminary engineering report and environmental assessment for the TxDOT off-system and prepared PS&E according to TxDOT standards.
