Freese and Nichols provided complete architectural, interior design, engineering and construction services on an addition to Temple College's Hubert M. Dawson Library.
The project required a complete interior renovation of the existing library. The renovation involved all HVAC systems, expansion of electrical and technology systems, as well as new lighting. New circulation flow and upgraded security concepts were designed for the completed facility. Special considerations were given for the structural loading requirements of heavy library stack space on existing poor soil conditions.
The completed $1.5-million renovation/addition project included new stack space, a circulation desk, a computer lab, workrooms, video area, periodicals, offices and ADA code upgrades.
The design of the new two-story volume addition required careful coordination with the existing facility on a limited site. The design applies the campus architectural style and palette of materials to maintain the look of the campus.
