Freese and Nichols is designing three Trinity River Vision signature bridges along Henderson Street, North Main Street and White Settlement Road. The bridges will serve as a future landmark over the Trinity River. Multiple conceptual design workshops were held with all project stakeholders, including a 50-person Citizen’s Advisory Committee. Several bridge concepts were evaluated and presented before selecting a final design. The preferred design was a unique v-pier bridge with a slender concrete superstructure, long cantilevered overhangs and v-piers spaced 220 feet apart. Design incorporates a major two-lane roundabout, which will be one of the largest in the southwest.

Freese and Nichols’ design includes services to overcome poor soil conditions, heavy traffic congestion and coordination challenges between national, state and local regulating bodies. The project goal was to create exceptional bridge design within budget that meets regulatory requirements of the City, TxDOT, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Fort Worth Western Railroad.
