Project Bidding Expands to the Virtual World

2011

At Freese and Nichols, electronic bidding is expanding the capabilities of the bid phase, making the process easier and more efficient.

For the Parker County Transportation Bond Program, electronic bidding using an online software program called e-Builder was implemented. This allows for easy posting of addendums and questions, as well as locked bids (meets all laws and regulations for public bidding) until the specified bid opening time. At the time of the bid opening, the results are automatically compiled into a bid tabulation that can then be exported into an Excel file, if needed.

Contractors also find electronic bidding more convenient in that it saves them time and money. There are fewer obstacles to submit bids, bids are calculated automatically and information is password protected. In addition, contractors are able to access plans and specifications online, saving time and money by eliminating the cost of the documents as well as multiple trips to pick them up.

Ultimately, clients benefit the most through electronic bidding by receiving more bids and more competitive pricing without geographical constraints. The process is efficient, with significant cost and time savings for all involved.
