Chief Information Officer Gary Soward, CAD Coordinators Mike Gardner and David Thompson and 3D Visualization Coordinator Claudio Branch visited the University of Texas at Arlington’s FabLab on Wednesday, June 3. UTA opened the facility last fall, located on the first floor of the campus central library. The lab offers 3D printing capabilities for students, faculty and the public, and an expansion is already underway.

Our group took a tour of the facility and learned about some of their other technology offerings such as laser cutting, 3D scanning, and virtual reality using the Oculus Rift. Claudio says the student-run staff did a great job of fielding their many questions while they watched a few students use the machines.

The proximity of UTA to the Fort Worth and Dallas offices enables our team to explore several types of 3D printers. Claudio says this technology is gaining popularity and would be useful to serve clients on various projects.
