Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award

American Society of Civil Engineers - Texas Section

Freese and Nichols provided design and construction phase services for the Benbrook Connection Project for the Tarrant Regional Water District. The $51 million project encompassed the 200-MGD Benbrook Pump Station, 8 miles of 90-inch raw water pipeline, 4 miles of 126-inch tunnel with 90-inch carrier pipe, two dechlorination facilities, and supervisory control and communication systems.

The project allows Benbrook Lake to be used as seasonal storage, saving TRWD $900,000 per year in power cost. It also connects TRWD’s east and west supply regions, allowing redundancy in supply systems, increased reliability, and operational flexibility to meet current and future demand. Construction was completed six weeks early, solving a critical water shortage at Lake Arlington.
