Public Works Project of the Year
American Public Works Association, Texas Chapter
The Merritt Road Improvements was selected as a Public Works Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association - Texas Chapter.
Category: Transportation, $5 million-$25 million
Client: City of Rowlett
Location: Rowlett and Sachse, northeast of Dallas
Project Manager: Kevin Johnson, Program Management, Dallas
Summary: This project redesigned an existing roadway to accommodate growth that is expected to accompany completion of a nearby tollway and the arrival of light rail service to Rowlett. The new road is noted for its sustainability considerations, including stormwater bioswales that impede the flow of pollutants into the water supply; medians that require little maintenance; efficient intersections that reduce idling; and a 10-foot-wide trail for pedestrians and cyclists.
