Grapevine Dove Waterpark is featured in the February issue of World Waterpark Magazine. Freese and Nichols provided a portion of the drainage work and sidewalk installation for the project, which received the 2013 Recreation Facility Design Excellence Award at the Texas Recreation & Park Society (TRAPS) North Region conference in November.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) anticipates opening the Call for Projects for its Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014.

The purpose of this program is to provide funding for bicycle and pedestrian projects (including Transportation Enhancements and Safe Routes to Schools). There is $27,830,000 available through the program (FY 2014 and 2015), with 34% for western sub-regions and 66% for eastern sub-regions. The deadline to submit to NCTCOG is May 30, 2014. Freese and Nichols introduced a new course at the Dallas Office Open House on Thursday, January 23, 2014. The course, titled “LID and Green Infrastructure: Basics to Applied Design,” covered low impact development (LID), green infrastructure, sustainable development, iSWMTM concepts, and other stormwater management and progressive infrastructure design strategies. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) administers the Recreational Trails Grant program in Texas. This grant program provides 80 percent federal funding to construct new trails, improve existing trails, develop trailheads and trailside facilities. Funding can also be used to acquire trail corridors. The maximum award for nonmotorized trails projects is $200,000. No maximum award has been established for motorized trail projects. Applications are due February 1, 2014.
