Austin Community Garden Officially Open

Adelphi Acre Community Garden, the City of Austin's first community garden on a public right of way, celebrated its Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting this spring. Freese and Nichols was a sponsor of the garden and the project steering committee included Chairperson Sabrina Joplin, Environmental Science, Austin, and Treasurer Billy Metzger, Accounting, Austin.

The ceremony was hosted by representatives of the City of Austin’s Public Works Department, including Director Howard Lazarus, Neighborhood Partnering Program Manager Justin Golbabai, and Project Coordinator Janae Ryan, District 7 Council Member Leslie Pool, and the Sustainable Food Center of Austin’s Grow Local Director Sari Albornoz.

Two years in the making, Adelphi Garden held continuous work days January 10  through January 18. Due to a very wet and cold winter, the project took longer to complete than expected, with many projects still under development.

Freese and Nichols received a certificate during the sponsor recognition. Patrick Garnett, Environmental Science, Austin, helped with early environmental surveys and analysis during the planning stage.
