A Flood of FEMA Funding
The annual Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant programs are open and accepting applications.
- The Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grant program can be used for acquisition/demolition, structure elevation, dry flood-proofing and localized flood reduction projects. Applications for the FMA program must be submitted via eGrants by Sept. 17, 2013.
- The Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) program can be used for acquisition/demolition, structure elevation, dry flood-proofing, localized flood reduction projects and new/updated Hazard Mitigation Action Plans (HMAPs). Applications for the PDM grant must be submitted via eGrants by Sept. 18, 2013.
- A Presidential Disaster Declaration was issued for Texas this month, opening the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) across the state. The HMGP grant can be used to fund the same types of projects as the PFM and FMA grants, including the development/update of the HMAP. The application deadline has not been announced is expected to be January or February 2014.
