Freese and Nichols to Enter San Antonio LID Design Competition

Freese and Nichols recently participated in the kickoff event for the San Antonio Land/Water Sustainability Forum’s Low Impact Development (LID) Design Competition. The competition, focusing on areas within San Antonio, entails three professional design challenge categories: Urban Redevelopment, Multi-family Mixed Use and Green Roadway.

At the kickoff, Lane Wheetley, Urban Planning and Design, Dallas, was interviewed on San Antonio's KSAT/Channel 12. Watch the video and read the accompanying article here.

LID is a design methodology for new development and redevelopment that has received tremendous emphasis in recent years as a means for improving environmental conditions in areas of urbanization. A large focus of LID is increasing the quality of stormwater runoff in the developed world by reducing impervious area, decentralizing stormwater infrastructure and using structural stormwater controls to treat runoff before it discharges into natural waterways.

In November of 2012, Freese and Nichols was named the winner of the Green Roadway Challenge in the North Texas Land/Water Sustainability Forum’s LID Design Competition focusing on areas within the DFW metroplex.
