Planning Progress in Kaufman County

Freese and Nichols is helping Kaufman County define the future of transportation for the next 20 years, starting with two transportation study projects that are part of a Countywide Transportation Plan.

Our team is providing transportation planning and traffic engineering for the Kaufman County Thoroughfare Plan and U.S. 80 Corridor Study as the initial kickoff of the Kaufman County Transportation Bond Program.

These projects will be coordinated with other locally adopted plans in Kaufman County, adjacent counties, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and will also be reflected in the most current North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Thoroughfare Plan. The Plan will identify long-term transportation needs through 2035.

Freese and Nichols began facilitating development of the Kaufman County Transportation Bond Program in 2012 to help provide funding for transportation improvement projects in the County as well as support TxDOT Pass-Through Financing projects for the Cities of Forney, Terrell, and Kaufman.

After the $56 million bond package was overwhelmingly approved by Kaufman County voters in November 2013, Freese and Nichols was selected along with partner Innovative Transportation Solutions to help develop and manage the bond program. Bond funds will be used to leverage other regional, state and federal funds to ultimately deliver 26 projects valued at more than $150 million. In July an $8.5 million inter-local agreement was approved by the City of Terrell as part of the bond program that will fund Spur 557 and FM 148 North project construction.
