Robert Thompson Receives Master of Science in Geospatial Information Sciences

Congratulations to Robert Thompson on receiving his Master of Science in Geospatial Information Sciences (GIS) from the University of Texas at Dallas. Robert is a GIS Analyst for the Stormwater Engineering group in the Freese and Nichols Dallas Office.  Robert's master's project was a spatio-temporal analysis of a simulated levee breach. He approximated how long it would take to flood the area behind the breach and analyzed the hazard impact using GIS-based methods. He also created a 3-D simulation of the flooding to visually illustrate the incremental flooding and times associated with specific flood hazard depths, which could help planners prioritize evacuation zones.

Freese and Nichols uses GIS on projects ranging from reservoir delineation and hydrologic analysis, to environmental classification and profiles, to database design, drainage analysis, surface modeling, and GPS surveys. Our GIS service sheet can be downloaded here.
