A Site Visit to the TCC Energy Technology Center
Last month, our Architecture Group visited the Energy Technology Center construction site at Tarrant County College South Campus. Freese and Nichols is the Architect of Record for the project. The complex, which will be the largest facility on the campus, will provide a long-needed new home for the Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology (HART) program and house new associate degree programs in Oil and Gas and Renewable Energy. The building support systems will be used as teaching tools for these programs, so most systems and infrastructure are visible and color-coded.
The general contractor is building the project in four distinct construction sequences so at this time everything from utility tunnel and foundation work to installation of the mechanical and electrical systems is visible. The project is anticipated to achieve LEED® Platinum Certification; it is about 50 percent complete and due to finish in late spring. TCC plans to open the center for classes in August 2015.
