Texas Proposition 6 Passed - What's Next?

The Texas voters approved Proposition 6 on Nov. 5, 2013. The approval of Prop 6 makes a one-time allocation of $2 billion from the State’s economic stabilization fund to the newly created State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT).

What happens next? According to the timeline posted on the Texas Water Development Board’s website, the Regional Water Planning Group stakeholder committee will develop project prioritization standards. The development and approval of these rules will take a while. Funding will likely be allocated following the approval of said rules in spring 2015.

Freese and Nichols continues to monitor the implementation of Prop 6. We will post a blog article when additional information becomes available. If you have questions or would like to discuss potential project ideas, please contact Jill Trevino.
