Chris Mack Board Certified as Diplomate in Coastal Engineering

Congratulations to Chris Mack, PE, D.CE, who achieved his Diplomate Coastal Engineering (D.CE) board certification from the Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE).

Chris was board certified for his advanced expertise, advanced education and specialized body of knowledge in the field of coastal engineering. He joined Freese and Nichols in May as our Lead Technical Professional for Coastal Engineering, continuing the expansion of our ability to address federal, state and local coastal protection, resiliency and restoration needs.

The certification recognizes and augments Chris’s expertise, which includes hydrology, hydraulics, coastal engineering, GIS, floodplain management, risk analysis, numerical modeling, software engineering, construction, design-bid-build, resilience, adaptive risk management and program/project management.

His experience over three decades of public and private sector work includes 13 years leading technical elements of civil works projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He also graduated from the Corps’ Coastal Engineering Education Program.

He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas and Alabama. And he has served with multiple groups involved in the coastal science and engineering, including as Chair of the Coastal Subcommittee of the USACE National Flood Proofing Committee, and a member of the USACE South Atlantic Coastal Study – Technical Committee, the South Carolina Shoreline Change Advisory Committee, the South Carolina Sea Grant Program Advisory Board and the South Carolina Beach Advocates Conference Planning Committee.
