Meacham Boulevard west of IH 35 in Fort Worth was experiencing frequent flooding and closures due to yearly rainfall events. An existing culvert beneath the heavily trafficked roadway was clogging with debris, causing stormwater to overtop the street and impeding traffic from using the road.

The City of Fort Worth selected Freese and Nichols to design drainage improvements for the problem area. The design our team developed included:

  • a gabion inflow channel
  • larger culverts beneath the roadway
  • and an enlarged downstream earthen channel.

Recent rain events have proved the new design is performing well and allowing the roadway to stay open for traffic.
