Freese and Nichols provided design services for this street reconstruction project that replaced the roadway and public utilities from Broadway Street to Seawall Boulevard on Galveston Island. The project length is approximately 1.3 miles and is funded through a Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR) relating back to the storm surge Galveston Island received in the wake of Hurricane Ike in 2008.
The project included removal and replacement of 1.3 miles of curb and gutter asphalt roadway with 49-ft wide curb and gutter concrete roadway, including new sidewalks, water lines, sanitary and storm sewer improvements. The project striping enhanced street parking as well as creating safe bike lanes for the island bikers. The project scope also included surveying, public involvement, utility line video inspection, environmental study, utility/storm design, traffic control and construction sequencing, and pavement markings and signage.
