Freese and Nichols designed an 187,000-square-foot, four-story office building for Alcon Laboratories, including mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and electrical design services. The building functions included a training area and laboratories, customer service call center, general office area and space for future offices.
Mechanical systems consisted of underground chilled water and steam utilities from the existing central plant, large custom air handlers on the first floor, atrium smoke purge and ductwork. Plumbing systems included steam to hot water heat exchangers, restrooms, and roof drainage. Electrical systems consisted of modifications to medium voltage distribution systems, lighting and power distribution, fire alarm, telephone and data raceways.
