In 2014, the City of Stafford updated their existing 1971 Comprehensive Plan. The updated Comprehensive Plan is a detailed and thorough document that incorporates the needs and desires of the community. The Plan highlights opportunity areas for future development and redevelopment, as well as, realistic and implementable recommendations agreed upon by the public, Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee and community stakeholders. The final Plan provides the City with a prioritized list of recommendations that are related to specific goals and strategies associated with economic development, transportation, future land use, parks and recreation, as well as neighborhood and community character, that will ultimately build upon the City’s strong fiscal foundation. The mayor described the Plan as a concerted approach, just as it was in 1971, to provide the best vision for Stafford’s future—this time to propel the City to the Year 2040.
