Freese and Nichols partnered with Dallas-based ZeitEnergy to design and create a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station for the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. The system can deliver CNG to 70 CNG-powered “green” school buses with the help of a $4-million grant provided by the U.S. Department of Energy in partnership with Kansas City Regional Clean Cities. The Freese and Nichols Team provided the fueling station’s design and civil engineering and ZeitEnergy was in charge of the system design. The station comprises 35 time-fill dispensers that allow each station to fuel two buses at a time. A time-fill arrangement allows buses to fill up overnight without any personnel present, saving staff time and personnel cost.
