Texas General Land Office efforts from the 1990s into the early 2000s resulted in publication of Texas Environmental Sensitivity Index Maps and Oil Spill Planning and Response Atlas Data Supplement. These documents help guide oil spill response to minimize impact to important coastal habitats and species. This project updated the index maps and data supplement to capture new information and aid protection of sensitive environmental features along the coast. This information updates the maps using advanced GIS mapping techniques. Data about species are incorporated including results from collaborative and public outreach meetings held to prioritize areas for oil spill protection.
