Freese and Nichols designed approximately two miles of 12-foot wide Fiber Reinforced Concrete trail along Hutton Branch Creek in the City of Carrollton. The project will provide trail connectivity from existing trails at Josey Lane to a proposed trail system along the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) rail line. The proximity to the DART Downtown Carrollton Station required that the trail head be designed to the City's transit-oriented development standards with decorative pavers, railings, lighting and signage.
The project includes the design of two low water crossings and two pedestrian bridges. The trail alignment also requries construction near the Josey Lake Dam and emergency spillway while maintaining appropriate treatment of a neighboring protected wildlife area.
