This Freese and Nichols project involved design of a 12-foot wide hike and bike trail leading from the Chisholm Trail along Chisholm Creek, ramping up to street level and running along the north side of Park Boulevard, crossing over U.S. 75, and connecting to the Parker Road DART Rail Station. The total length of the trail is approximately one mile. The project included extensive consideration of water, wastewater, gas, and electrical utility lines, meters, valves and vaults, in addition to relocation of one traffic signal controller and one signal pole along Park Boulevard.
The Freese and Nichols team redesigned the median and riding surface space allocation on the bridge over U.S. 75 to incorporate the 12-foot trail, a crash barrier, railings compliant with Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, and retention of six lanes of traffic. The project also incorporated new DART bus stop pads. Preparation of right-of-way acquisition documents was completed. Total estimated construction cost is approximately $1.3 million.
