Freese and Nichols has been assisting the City of Pearland with solving water quality issues since 2006. One of the solutions that Freese and Nichols provided is implementation of a phased unidirectional flushing (UDF) program.
UDF is a proactive, systematic approach to improve water quality. Its highly structured methodology consists of sequentially flushing designated pipe sections with higher water velocities to create a scouring action that cleans the pipe walls. In addition to water quality improvements, this program has assisted in enhancing the accuracy of Geographic Information System field maps as well as identifying areas in need of preventative maintenance activities.
