As a sub-consultant to PBS&J, Freese and Nichols was under contract to design and prepare technical drawings for four cross culverts on Section IV of the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) Eastern Extension. Design included defining drainage areas, sizing and designing four major cross culverts, and coordination among local municipalities, PBS&J and the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA). Freese and Nichols worked with PBS&J to develop a drainage system that accommodates the existing downstream drainage systems limitations, while not adding undue cost to the project. Design included a splitter box to release flow to the downstream system based on capacity, and send the remaining flow through the roadway drainage system.
In addition, Freese and Nichols researched all existing utilities and coordinated with utility owners to facilitate relocation of conflicting utilities. The project scope included preparing existing utility location maps and documenting all ownership information and possible conflicts. Freese and Nichols also designed the utility connections for toll plazas.
