Freese and Nichols is providing design improvements to Rock Creek Road from Grandview Avenue to 36th Avenue. This half-mile project consists of an existing two-lane rural roadway, which the City wanted to widen to four lanes. However, Freese and Nichols had recently prepared the City’s Master Thoroughfare Plan, and determined that three auto lanes plus bicycle lanes would accommodate future traffic projections and reduce the project’s footprint and right-of-way needs. In addition, our team suggested the construction of a roundabout at the Grandview intersection. A roundabout is desirable there due to the relatively low traffic on Grandview, and it will act as a gateway to a nearby neighborhood. The project also includes storm drain, illumination, and landscape improvements.
