Freese and Nichols developed plans and specifications and local, state and federal permitting for the construction of an earthen embankment dam for regional erosion and flood control in the upper reaches on the main stem of Walnut Creek. The project was broken into multiple phases including the feasibility studies, environmental and karst studies, land acquisition, final design, construction phase services and preparing LOMA for FEMA.
Freese and Nichols and the City worked closely with the developer to coordinate design and construction of an inundation pool, modification of an existing water quality pond splitter box, and installation of an area inlet and subsurface drainage system to prevent the ponding of water upstream. The project required USACE 404 individual permit and included on-site mitigation through protecting and enhancing existing wetlands.
