Naveen Chillara Joins Water Resources Design Team

Naveen Chillara, PE, has joined our Water Resources Design Division as a senior project manager and water resources design engineer serving the Southeast Texas and Louisiana markets.

With more than 16 years of experience in water resources projects and coastal engineering services, Naveen will play an integral role in supporting existing client needs and expanding our services to a diverse client base throughout the region.

Naveen’s commitment and passion to the industry will greatly benefit our team and our partners.”

Naveen’s varied experience includes planning and designing resiliency solutions for both private and public entities, including federal agencies, state agencies, municipal governments and international governments. His expertise covers multiple areas: river diversions; design of flood protection systems and hurricane risk reduction and drainage systems; coastal restoration and shoreline protection; marsh creation; and design of wastewater collection and treatment facilities.

Naveen also has a wealth of management experience. He has coordinated planning studies, performed detailed design and analysis of hydraulic structures, and developed complex construction plans and specifications.

His noteworthy projects include:

  • Disaster response and design of flood protection systems after Hurricane Katrina, working with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and local parishes in the New Orleans area. The projects included pumping out flood waters, restoring the flood protection systems and designing upgrades for a much more robust flood protection system. The design features included building levee enlargement, floodwalls and floodgates; frontal protection; pumping stations, navigation locks and floodgate systems.
  • Mississippi River Diversion projects, including the freshwater diversion into the swamps of Lake Maurepas and the sediment diversion of 75,000 cubic feet per second from the river to the Barataria Bay.
  • Development of a risk assessment and sediment management study for the Government of India for the entire Kosi River Basin area.
  • Development of water distribution systems for Nanjangud, Magadi and Kollegala Towns for Karnataka (State of India).

Naveen earned his master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of New Orleans and his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad, India.

He is widely involved in volunteering with social services providers including the City of San Antonio’s Parks and Recreation DepartmentNorth East Independent School District and San Antonio Public Library on their community wellness initiatives. He is a certified trainer of Heartfulness Meditation through the Heartfulness Institute​​ and offers meditation training to any interested organizations.​​
