A Sustainable Soccer Site
In northwest Dallas, Freese and Nichols’ site civil, environmental and stormwater teams transformed a closed landfill into MoneyGram Soccer Park. The complex, which hosted games for the 2014 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, features 19 soccer fields plus picnic areas. Playgrounds and trails will come in phase two. Its sustainable design includes eight bioswales for stormwater runoff treatment, and parking lots made of recycled materials. The project received the 2014 Texas Municipal League Municipal Excellence Award in the Public Works category.
