Texas Future, a nonprofit organization “dedicated to educating and talking with Texans about the issues relating to the funding of our roads and highways,” has released a video on the gap in infrastructure funding in Texas, caused by increased population growth and decreased sustainable funding sources. The video gives a brief explanation of constitutional amendment SJR 1, which will appear on the ballot in November.

The amendment proposes to dedicate oil and gas severance taxes to Texas’ highway fund. If this amendment does pass in November, it won’t fix all of the state’s infrastructure issues, but would hopefully serve as a step to decrease the funding gap, benefiting much needed transportation projects, as Proposition 6 has benefited water projects in Texas.
