TFMA Partnership Facilitates Successful Lubbock Floodplain Seminar

Heather Keister

For the third consecutive year, Freese and Nichols partnered with the West Texas Region of the Texas Floodplain Management Association and the City of Lubbock to host a floodplain seminar for municipal professionals. More than 20 people attended the Oct. 29 “Municipal Floodplain Challenges and TFMA Updates” seminar. Instructors Heather Keister, P.E., CFM, Katie Hogan, P.E., CFM, both Freese and Nichols; Steven Nelson, P.E., CFM, City of Lubbock and TFMA Region 1 Director; and Nathan Rigler, P.E., CFM, Hugo Reed and Associates, led eight workshops over the course of the day, presenting on floodplain concerns and issues municipalities face and how different communities overcome those challenges. Attendees found the presentations to be helpful and informative, and provided positive feedback.

Multiple people helped coordinate the event, from curriculum, presentation and materials development to lunch coordination and room setup. Thank you to all who were involved and to Lubbock County for allowing us to host the event in their office building.
