TWDB – Flood Protection Planning Grant

Jill Trevino

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) recently posted a request for applications for the Flood Protection Planning Grant. Up to $900,000 has been initially authorized for this grant application cycle. Typical awards are in the $100,000 to $150,000 range.

This grant can be used to study watersheds in Texas. The study can include hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, public input, and the development of recommended strategies to address flooding. The grant provides Texas money for up to 50 percent of the cost to develop the plan, with up to 75 percent available to areas identified as economically disadvantaged. Eligible applicants include political subdivisions with the legal authority to plan for and abate flooding. Applicants must participate in the National Flood Insurance Program.

Applications are due to the TWDB prior to noon on Feb. 25, 2015. Please contact Freese and Nichols if you have any questions about a potential study that might qualify for this funding. We have successfully assisted multiple entities in procuring Flood Protection Planning Grant funds. Jill Trevino is available to answer your questions and discuss project ideas.
