Using GIS in AutoCAD Civil 3D | Freese and Nichols Team Presents at Autodesk University
The Freese and Nichols AutoCAD team presented two classes at Autodesk University 2015 in Las Vegas in December. This is the second year our team has been selected to present.
Mike Gardner and Mark Valentino, Business Technology, Fort Worth, were joined by Eddie Johnson of Construction Industry Solutions (COINS) to present “Follow the GIS Brick Road: Data-Sharing Workflows between GIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016.” The hands-on class provided a primer on collecting data from GIS for use in AutoCAD Civil 3D preliminary design, and then, more importantly, how to take final design elements from AutoCAD Civil 3D and return them to GIS. David Thompson, Business Technology, Fort Worth, and Brent Handley, Treatment, Transmission and Utilites, Pearland, also provided assistance during the class.
Mike Gardner presented a lecture, “GIS: a Little C3D Makes the World Go Round — Using GIS Data for AutoCAD Civil 3D Predesign.” The class covered a basic process for bringing GIS data into Civil 3D and editing the data for output. Mike also discussed using GIS data to create surfaces and pipe networks for use in preliminary design. View the lecture on Autodesk University Online
Autodesk presents the four-day Autodesk University (AU) annually as an educational and networking event during the first week of December. With over 700 classes attended by more than 10,000 people, this was the largest event in its 20-plus-year-history.
