David Jones Appointed to Mansfield Planning and Zoning Commission

David Jones

David Jones has been appointed by the Mansfield City Council to the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission. The appointment places him in a key volunteer role that helps guide the future growth and development of one of the Fort Worth area’s fastest-growing communities.

Mansfield has evolved significantly in recent decades, from a rural community to a city of almost 100,000 residents known for its strong economy, diverse neighborhoods and commitment to walkable and fiscally sound development driven by the Mansfield 2040 Plan. As growth continues, the City relies on thoughtful planning and zoning to preserve its quality of life and support responsible, long-term progress.

The Planning and Zoning Commission plays a central role in that process. The Commission reviews and recommends actions on development proposals, zoning changes and long-range planning efforts that shape Mansfield’s development. Members of the board are also frequently asked to serve on ad hoc steering committees for various city initiatives.

David brings both experience and community focus to the role. At Freese and Nichols, he has managed and contributed to successful comprehensive plans, small area plans and development codes across Texas. He has also served as both Chief City Planner and Community Development Director to cities in North Texas, where he presented to numerous city councils and planning commissions, giving him a clear understanding of how planning decisions move from concept to action. His appointment allows him to apply that same insight within the community where he has resided since 2022.

As a Mansfield resident, this opportunity is especially meaningful to me. Serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission allows me to give back to the community I call home and help shape decisions that support thoughtful growth while reflecting Mansfield’s long-term vision.

David holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning and Design from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. His academic foundation, combined with his professional planning experience, positions him to support Mansfield’s long-term vision and contribute meaningfully to discussions about growth, design and community priorities
