Erin Flanagan Appointed to Texas Tech CECE Department Industry Advisory Board

Erin Flanagan, PE, has been appointed to the Industry Advisory Board for the Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering (CECE) Department at Texas Tech University. This appointment honors Erin’s professional journey, as well as reinforces Freese and Nichol’s commitment to technical excellence, industry leadership and strategic recruitment.

A two-time graduate of Texas Tech with both a bachelor’s and master’s in environmental engineering, Erin brings more than 20 years of experience to the board, including nearly four years leading our North Texas Water/Wastewater treatment group. Her appointment reflects a full-circle moment in her career.

“It’s a humbling opportunity to give back to the department and program that educated me and launched my professional journey,” Erin said. “I’m excited to collaborate with colleagues, contribute and keep building a department that’s strong, up to date with real-world challenges and known for turning out graduates everyone wants to hire.”

Kevin Johnson, PE, executive vice president of operations, previously served on the board for six and a half years. During his tenure, he played a key role in strengthening Freese and Nichols’ relationship with Texas Tech, particularly in student development and recruitment.

“It’s been rewarding to see so many of the outstanding graduating seniors recognized by the board come from Freese and Nichols’ internship program or join us as full-time hires,” Kevin said. “It’s a reflection of the partnership we’ve built with the department and the shared commitment to preparing students for successful careers.”

Erin’s appointment builds on that momentum. Her active role in recruiting and mentoring students, combined with her technical expertise, positions her to offer valuable feedback to faculty and help align the program with industry needs.

“I continue to participate in new graduate recruiting efforts and collaborate with my managers to support the ongoing professional development of young engineers,” Erin said.  “I can help to provide feedback to faculty on the strengths and areas of potential improvement of the curriculum to help young engineers reach higher levels of knowledge when they graduate.”

As Erin steps into this role, Freese and Nichols continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting academic partnerships, advancing technical knowledge and fostering the next generation of engineers, helping us to better serve our clients and communities.
