James R. Nichols Community Service Award: Matthew Marzett

Matthew Marzett

BIM/CAD Supervisor Matthew Marzett exemplifies service-oriented leadership in both his professional and personal life. Whether supporting clients, mentoring technical staff or dedicating time to community service, Matt is deeply committed to making a positive impact on those around him. In the past year, he has devoted 133 hours to youth development, community support and strengthening local organizations.

As a volunteer youth baseball coach, Matt inspires young athletes by providing guidance, structure and encouragement. His involvement promotes teamwork, confidence and discipline, preparing young players for success both on and off the field.

Beyond the ballpark, Matt also volunteers at his local food bank, helping individuals and families facing food insecurity receive reliable access to food and essential resources.

As a church deacon, Matt provides ongoing leadership that strengthens community outreach, coordinates service efforts and upholds organizational stability, enabling lasting support for those the church serves.

“Matt’s work as a technical leader, supervisor and community volunteer reflects a thoughtful, well-rounded approach to leadership,” Group Manager Clay Herndon said in his nomination.

“He leads by example every day, going above and beyond and consistently bringing to life the values that make Freese and Nichols who we are.”

In the office, on the field and in the community, Matt continues to lead with heart — knocking it out of the park with his integrity and commitment.

Freese and Nichols presents the James R. Nichols Community Service Award each year to an employee who demonstrates dedication and commitment to public service. Nominees are evaluated according to their personal involvement with community or charitable organizations; their long-term, positive impact on the community; and their efforts that go above and beyond normal duties. The recipient receives a cash stipend of $1,000.
