David Sloan Honored for Advancing Water Reuse

Congratulations to David Sloan, PE, BCEE, on receiving the Alan H. Plummer Environmental Sustainability Award for his work advancing the water reuse industry.

The Water Environment Association of Texas presents the award to recognize outstanding contributions in environmental sustainability practices. David has pioneered work in potable water reuse, and the rich body of articles, presentations and feasibility studies he has produced guides other professionals in applying reuse principles.

David has been a leader in the water reuse field for more than 25 years, participating in trailblazing projects that include industrial and irrigation uses and potable applications. He is widely recognized for his role as project manager and technical leader on the first direct potable reuse facility in North America: the Colorado River Municipal Water District’s Raw Water Production Facility in Big Spring, Texas.

“David’s tremendous technical skill set, experience and devotion to sound science and engineering principles have made him a great ambassador for reuse in our industry and within the public,” W/WW Treatment Practice Leader David Jackson said in the award nomination. “His knowledge sets him apart as an industry leader.”

David is active in numerous professional groups serving the water industry: The Water Environment Association of TexasAmerican Academy of Environmental EngineersAmerican Water Works AssociationWateReuse AssociationWater Environment Federation and the American Membrane Technology Association.

He’s also a leader in reuse-specific roles, including:

  • Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Direct Potable Reuse Workgroup
  • AWWA Reuse Committee
  • WEF Water Reuse Committee
  • WaterReuse Texas State Trustee

He has participated in the annual WateReuse Association Symposium for the past 15 years, as well as numerous state conferences, specialty conferences and other events, including the American Membrane Technology Association’s 2018 Congressional and U.S. EPA Briefing in Washington, D.C.
