Freese and Nichols Adds Barry Fehl to Lead Major Federal Civil Works Projects
Please welcome Barry Fehl, D.Sc., PE, an accomplished structural engineer who has joined Freese and Nichols as a Senior Water Resource Design Engineer to lead large federal civil works projects.
Barry has 40 years of experience designing and managing multimillion-dollar projects across the United States providing flood protection and flood damage reduction. His expertise includes flood walls, levees, pump stations, dam safety and all facets of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects: planning, design and research.
After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, Barry managed multiple key projects, involving more than $1 billion in construction, to restore levees, floodwalls and pump stations.
He spent 20 years as an engineer at the USACE and has continued to work on a variety of USACE projects and assist in writing USACE guidance documents.
“Barry’s wealth of knowledge about Corps work will help us expand our capacity to deliver major federal programs,” said Cody Cockroft, Freese and Nichols’ Group Manager for Water Resource Design in Southeast Texas. “And his experience with design-build project delivery adds even more innovative approaches to solving problems for our clients.”
Barry is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Missouri, North Dakota and New Jersey. He joins Freese and Nichols as an Associate, with Houston as his home office.
He received his doctorate in civil engineering from Washington University, his master’s from The University of Texas at Austin and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology).
