Jacksonville Office Opens with Kristi Fernandez, Regional Water/Wastewater Planning Expert

Freese and Nichols increases its Florida presence with the opening of a new office in Jacksonville and the addition of Kristi Fernandez to lead modeling and water/wastewater master planning projects in that area. This is our third office in Florida in three years.

Kristi will provide modeling services for water/wastewater master planning projects and design-build work. Her strong technical knowledge in modeling, software and master planning stems from more than 18 years in engineering for civil and environmental sectors, providing services for projects in master planning for utilities, water, wastewater, reclaimed water and stormwater spanning North America with an emphasis in Florida. Her experience includes several years of work in software management, training and sessions offered at local and national conferences such as the Florida Section of AWWA conference and WEFTEC.

“Much of Kristi’s experience has been with Florida utilities like the City of St. Petersburg, City of Daytona Beach and Hillsborough County, making her a resource for local water and wastewater drivers, issues and regulations,” said Jessica Brown, Water and Wastewater Practice Leader. “She also has experience with national utilities, allowing her to advise on best practices that can be applied to the region.”

Kristi will help the firm serve Northeast Florida cities, counties and water districts within the Jacksonville to Daytona Beach corridor, the greater Jacksonville area, and the Southeast Georgia coastal region. These regions are experiencing significant population growth and infrastructure challenges, and Freese and Nichols will focus on support for area clients needing water, wastewater, stormwater and climate resilience improvements.

“The location of our Jacksonville office opens opportunities for our firm to serve a range of area clients,” said Trooper Smith, Florida Division Manager. “Currently, we have several regional contracts, including with the City of Daytona Beach and City of Palm Coast, and see opportunities to expand our service to clients like JEA, St. John’s County, City of St. Augustine, USACE Jacksonville and more.”

Kristi has a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of South Florida. She has been involved in American Water Works Association (AWWA)Esri Southeast User GroupSociety of Women Engineers (SWE) and ASCE.
