Tunnels have become a new tool for urban infrastructure projects to maximize the level of service and minimize disruption to residents, businesses and commuters.

Freese and Nichols Tunneling Services Leader Brian Gettinger, PE, will provide insights into this development during the ASCE Texas Section April Technical Webinar, “Tunneling: Trending Infrastructure Tool for Texas’ Urban Centers,” on April 14, noon-1 p.m. CT.

Brian will discuss important considerations for planning, designing and constructing a tunnel project, and he’ll highlight project examples from Texas and around the United States.

Tunneling already has been used across the state and is increasingly seen as an option because of rapid technological improvements and a maturing contractor pool. Tunneled infrastructure can be installed with a fraction of the community impact of traditional construction methods. Tunneling also can use existing right-of-way without disturbing current infrastructure.
