Meet Our New Principals and Associates

Freese and Nichols has elected seven new Principals and 16 new Associates. Principals and Associates are seen as leaders of the firm, who have made proven contributions in the realm of professional competence, developing the business and management. All of the individuals below have contributed greatly to the success of the company.

Principals

Clayton Barnard is an Engineer in the Water/Wastewater Transmission & Utilities group in our Frisco office. He has been with Freese and Nichols for 15 years. Clayton has profitably managed more than 10 projects for the past three years. He is a trusted advisor for two of the largest and fastest growing counties in Texas (Collin and Denton Counties) and has grown our business significantly in the Transmission & Utilities practice area. Chris Jones is the Group Manager for the North Texas PMCM Group, residing in the Fort Worth office. He has been with Freese and Nichols for 24 years. Chris manages the largest (69 employees) and one of the fastest growing groups (over 20% in 2019) in the company. Chris has a diverse background in construction management services including pump/lift stations, force mains, small/large diameter water and sewer lines, water/wastewater treatment plants, roadways, ground and elevated storage tanks and drainage structures. Mazen Kawasmi is an Engineer in the Water and Wastewater Master Planning Group in Fort Worth. He has been with Freese and Nichols for 15 years. Mazen has been a key part in developing the company’s MSI (wastewater condition assessment) capabilities, along with our other wastewater field services and modeling capabilities. This has led to long-term projects with several key accounts. Mazen has been key in helping to diversify Freese and Nichols’ service offerings. He is a trusted advisor to several of our clients including Fort Worth Water, Grand Prairie, Plano, NTMWD, Frisco, Highland Park and Austin Water. Connect via LinkedIn

Charles Kucherka is an Engineer in the Central Texas Treatment, Transmission & Utilities group in the San Marcos office. He has been with Freese and Nichols for 15 years. Charles has been instrumental in making Freese and Nichols relevant in design of elevated and ground storage tanks by developing himself into a technical expert, leading and supporting sales efforts and design teams across the state of Texas to build our corporate resume. Charles is Freese and Nichols’ Senior Technical Professional in water storage tank design, rehabilitation and coatings and was instrumental in building our business in San Antonio and San Marcos. Connect via LinkedIn

Matt Moses is an Engineer in the Water Resource Design group in the Austin office. He has been with Freese and Nichols for 10 years. Matt is an accomplished structural engineer with a specialization in large and complex hydraulic structures, specifically involving mass concrete and structural steel members. He has been instrumental in the growth and leadership of Freese and Nichols’ recurring business line of spillway gate analyses, design and high-angle inspections. With his leadership, he has helped develop young talent within the firm to continue serving clients for many years to come.

Matt Shafer is the Process Improvement Manager in the Office of the President in Fort Worth. He has been with Freese and Nichols for 10 years. Matt has made significant improvements to the company’s Ownership Transition Model (to aid in future success of the company), implementation of LSS recommended measures to improve negative variance, and the creation of proactive management tools. In his current role, Matt has succeeded in closing the gap between corporate processes and technical operations. Connect via LinkedIn

Trey Shanks, an Environmental Scientist in Fort Worth, leads Freese and Nichols’ Asset Management initiative. He has been with Freese and Nichols for 22 years. Over the last decade, Trey was coined a premier expert in Texas on Stormwater Utility Fees and MS4 Stormwater Compliance.
