“Working on water and wastewater treatment plant design and construction projects taught me quickly what kinds of skills are required to succeed in a highly technical field,” she writes. “The engineering knowledge is essential, but principles like ownership and communication are just as important.”

Her advice in “Empowerment for Success” includes:

  • Understand your customers.
  • Take responsibility.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals and groups.
  • Project confidence.
  • Learn continuously.

“In our industry, it’s essential to explore new tools for improving the ways we deliver projects for the communities we serve,” she writes.
