Candice Chapman, Administrative Assistant, Dallas

Knows: Organizing systems and tasks for two different offices

Known for: Juggling load as full-time student, part-time organizer-in-chief

Candice Chapman’s dual lives comprise full-time attendance at the University of North Texas and her oversight of two offices as an administrative assistant in Frisco and Denton. Thankfully, her military service – five years as a Marine Corps Military Police Officer – prepared her for tough assignments and taking on responsibility. Freese and Nichols' flexibility and support of veterans returning to the civilian workplace make a difference for Candice every day. Candice’s skills make a difference to Freese and Nichols.  


Eric Potts, Associate and Account Director, Pearland

Knows: Aviation, ports, transportation, military, management of large programs

Known for: Service on the Board of Directors/Chairman of the Steer Auction Committee, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Following more than 27 years of award-winning leadership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Eric Potts joined Freese and Nichols in 2012. Eric plays a critical role in the management and operation of large, complex infrastructure projects for aviation facilities, key water resource development and environmental protection programs. His participation is also critical to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a non-profit that supports youth, education and better agricultural practices. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has committed nearly $375 million to scholarships, grants, youth prizes and educational youth programs since its beginnings in 1932.


Kim Patak, Stormwater Engineer, Austin

Knows: Stormwater modeling and engineering, especially fluvial geomorphology of Central Texas

Known for: Protecting our environment, getting things done, speaking her mind

When Central Texas grapples with drainage and stormwater challenges, Kim Patak is often the one who designs the solutions. Her analyses and stormwater designs have helped urban places as densely traveled as San Antonio’s intersection of Broadway and Hildebrand, and ecologically sensitive areas like Cities of Bee Cave and Austin. A frequent presenter to other professionals, Kim serves as president for the Austin chapter of the Environmental Water Resources Institute.


Ron Guzman, Vice President and Principal, Corpus Christi

Knows: Municipal infrastructure, fighting drought and providing water resources to the Corpus Christi area

Known for: Inspiring his Coastal Bend co-workers to join him in local housing and neighborhood improvement projects

Ron Guzman joined Freese and Nichols in 2007 and within a few years our Corpus Christi office was honored as the best place to work in the city. Ron serves his co-workers as diligently as he helps clients in the region find solutions to their need for water pipelines, roadways and public works projects. His team generally takes on two ramp builds per year, sharing the cost and devoting their free time to the community.  


Amy Caster, Employment Manager, Fort Worth

Known for: Loyalty to Texas Tech, service to Meals on Wheels, devotion to soccer and her willingness to listen

Amy Caster is the advisor you wish you had in school. Her insight and understanding of how your talent, experience and style might fit at Freese and Nichols are matched by her ability to help you navigate the right path in every stage of your professional development. Amy, a longtime volunteer and board member at Meals On Wheels, is a natural-born wrangler of people and resources. She rounds up teams and donations to help where it’s needed in our communities and in our work lives.


Shad Comeaux, Senior Planner, Pearland

Knows: Urban Planning, Campus Master Planning, Community Engagement

Known for: Exceptionally inclusive and effective public meetings, project management

Shad Comeaux helps communities – cities, schools and neighborhoods – become the places they want to be. An Associate and Senior Planner in our Pearland office, Shad made a special point of reaching out to his hometown of Port Arthur and he is now leading the Freese and Nichols team to help the City develop their downtown and comprehensive plans. Outside the office, Shad, an ordained minister, has been known to team with his co-workers for almost any competitive event.  


Teresa Castillon, Electrical Engineer, Fort Worth

Knows: Bringing power and light through electrical design

Known for: Celebrating milestones with her fellow engineers and designers

Teresa Castillon designs electrical systems for our infrastructure projects. As lead electrical designer for our work at Lockheed Martin, she’s adept at finding solutions for managing complex systems. She’s also adept, according to her co-workers, at making human connections, coordinating volunteer activities and team donations. Teresa’s the one who motivates her group to help out at The Women’s Center and to support the local food bank through Canstruction. She makes sure that occasions like birthdays and personal accomplishments get recognized in our workplace as moments to celebrate. 


Mike Wayts, Vice President and Principal

Knows: Stormwater management, managing projects, municipal clients, marketing and relationship building, management and mentoring

Known for: Taking on new challenges, continuous improvement, helping local governments improve their stormwater programs, leading teams in charity competitions

It’s natural for Mike Wayts to seek new challenges and natural for Freese and Nichols to deploy him to lead our Raleigh office. From his start as an intern in our (then) three-person Dallas office to his role today as a firm principal and division manager, Mike has led the introduction of sustainability into our work. His keen interest in the people and organizations he serves also leads him to support community interests, organizing teams and events for local organizations.
